Apple iPad – Launch Day

What is it?
The Apple iPad has been announced for a while now, but today is the launch day and so we will take a look at it while the the few and the proud have their hands all over its fingerprint-attracting surface. The cheapest model comes in at $499 and the most expensive comes in at $829.

What it has?
- 9.7″ capacitive touchscreen IPS LCD display
- 1GHz Apple A4 chip
- 10-hour battery life
- 1-month standby
- 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB flash drive memory
- Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n
- Bluetooth 2.1 EDR
- 3G UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz) – optional
- GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz) – optional
- 30-pin Dock connector
- A speaker and a microphone

What it needs?
There is no doubt this device is going to be powerful and smooth. But one thing that will definitely restrict its successful is the data plans – pay $15 a month for 250MB of AT&T data or $30 for unlimited. If apple puts a 4G chip in there and do $30 a month unlimited plan through Clear or Sprint or Comcast, then you are looking at a netbook killer. Throw in tethering via Wi-Fi, I would of stood in line today.

Hanvon TouchPad BC10C and BA10E Tablets

What is it?
The Hanvon TouchPad BC10C and BA10E are tablet PCs; so by nature it does what most other personal computers do, except in a keyboard-less and ultra portable body. In other words, it is what the Apple iPad should have been.

What it has?
- BC10C / BA10E
- CPU: 1.3GHz Intel Celeron ULV743 / 1.6GHz Intel Atom
- GPU: Mobile Intel 4 Series / Intel GMA500
- SDRAM: 2GB DDR2 / 1GB DDR2
- HDD: 250GB / 120GB
- Multi-touch 10.1″ LED Backlight Screen at 1024 x 600dpi
- Body is made from aluminum, carbon fiber, and plastic
- Camera: 2.0MP / 1.3MP
- Windows 7 Home Premium
- WiFi & Bluetooth
- 253 x 168 x 18.4 mm / 243 x 183 x 14 mm

What it needs?
This will be tough to answer. Software-wise, there is not much to complain because these tablets are running Windows 7, so you can install any software you need (reads: Amazon Kindle PC Software).

Hardware-wise, if Hanvon can squeeze Intel Core 2 Duo and a WiMAX receiver into this baby, I don’t see why anyone would be crazy enough to buy an Apple iPad!!
