T-Mobile myTouch 4G

What is it?
T-Mobile annouced their 4G network and claims that it is currently the largest one in the USA. The myTouch 4G is their flagship phone for this new network.

What it has?

What it needs?
The phone is pretty solid – the only concern is the 4G claim. It is not truely 4G like WiMax or LTE, but just HSPA+ claiming download speeds of 14 Mbps. So we will have to wait and see how good this connection is.

Garmin Nuvi 3700 Series

What is it?
Do you like your Google Phone or your iPhone’s navigation not because it is better than a fully dedicated GPS Navigation unit, but because it is slim and good looking hanging there on your windshield? Well now you have the Garmin Nuvi 3700 Series. Coming in about the same thickness of the iPhone, these babies are just GPS Naviagtion units.

What it needs?
While it is nice to have a dedicated GPS Navigator that actually looks good, why not through in a music and video player? Can it really be that hard to add those features?

HTC DROID Incredible

What is it?
The HTC DROID Incredible, to be available on Verizon Wireless, is basically a better Nexus One or a CDMA version of the HTC Desire. The Incredible will be available on April 29 for $200 after $100 mail-in rebate.

What it has?
- Android 2.1 with HTC Sense experience
- 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
- “Leap” view for quick access to all seven home screen panels
- 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash
- 3.7″ WVGA (480×800) AMOLED capacitive touch display

What it needs?
After HTC dropped the Supersonic, I am not sure any phone can compete with it. So what does the Incredible needs? It needs to be the Supersonic.

Flip SlideHD

The Flip SlideHD from Cisco is being called “the world’s first shoot and show camcorder”, which has an onboard display large enough to enjoy the video you just shot immediately. The screen, when in recording mode, acts as a touchscreen control for the system.

What it has?
- Color: White/Silver and Personalized
- Recording Time: Up to four hours
- Storage Time: Up to 12 Hours
- Memory: 16GB
- Screen: 3-inch wide transflective touch screen
- Video Resolution: High Definition; 1280×720 (30fps)

- Battery: Internal Li-ion rechargeable

What it needs?
Overall, the Flip SlideHD is pretty solid and will be a nice upgrade for those with previous version and those who enjoy the form factor. However, coming in around $280, consumers can get better camcorders with a screen in the traditional form factor. Therefore, the Flip SlideHD needs to reduce its price.

Microsoft Kin One & Two

What is it?
I am not sure if Microsoft likes to fail or I am not their target market, but the Microsoft Kin One and Two seems like it belongs to back when the T-Mobile Sidekick was first introduced. When there are operating systems like the iPhone OS 4 and Android and super phones like the Sprint EVO 4G on the horizon, the Kin One and Two seems like a kid’s toys.

What it has?
- GSM 850/900/1800/1900
- HSDPA
- 16M colors TFT touchscreen
- Memory: 4GB for One / 8GB for Two
- Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g
- Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP
- USB 2.0
- Camera: 5MP for One / 8MP for Two
- Video: Standard for One / 720p for Two
- Some variant of Windows 7 Phone OS
- GPS
- Social networking out the ying yang

What it needs?
I am glad that Microsoft tries to do something different with their User Interface instead of doing something similar to the iPhone (i.e. Android and WebOS), but I think the solution Microsoft came up with, which started with the Zune, is a confusing panoramic-crazed step-child.

As for the phones, when you all you have are two mediocre ones, it is best to just shoot out a press release and let it be. To create an Apple-like launch event for it is just a waste of time. Then again, what do I know, I am not the one with millions of dollar to spend on market and consumer research.
