Sony Vaio M Series

What is it?
Sony puts it M series into the notebook category, but one look at the specs, it is clearly a netbook meant for usage during travel.

What it has?
- Intel Atom N450 1.66GHz
- Genuine Windows 7 Starter (32-bit)
- 1GB DDR2 SDRAM (667 MHz)
- 250GB Serial ATA (5400 rpm)
- 10.1” 16:10 display (1024×600) with LED backlight
- Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150
- 183 x 33 x 268 mm at 1.4 kilograms
- WLAN 802.11b/g/n
- Bluetooth 2.1+EDR
- MOTION EYE camera
- Stereo speakers plus mono microphone
- 3 USB ports

What it needs?
For the M series to be a better netbook, it definitely needs to have SSD and a 3G or 4G card. I rather have that then large HDD, 3 USB ports, and Bluetooth.

MSI X-Slim X360

What is it?
The MSI X-Slim X360 is the 2010 update to their ultra-thin X-Slim laptop series. The hardware upgrade is personally exciting to me because I am using the lowly X320 with a Core 2 Solo!!

What it has?
- Windows 7 Home Premium
- Intel Core i5-520UM processor
- Chipset Intel HM55
- Graphic Intel HD Graphic
- 4GB DDRIII SO-DIMM
- 13″ HD (Glare type) 1366×768
- 2.5″ 250/320/500 GB SATA
- Card reader 2 in 1 (support SD/MMC)
- HDMI, D-sub, USB 2.0 x 2, Mic-in, Headphone out, RJ-45
- Battery 4 /8 cells battery pack
- Wireless 802.11 b/g/draft n, Bluetooth V2.1EDR
- 1.3M Webcam
- 2 Speakers
- 324 mm (W) x 227 mm (D) x 6~22.5 mm at 1.4 grams

What it needs?
MSI – you could of made the X360 very desirable by using SSD instead of HDD, an anti-glare screen, and the final version of Wireless N. These additions would allow the X360 to compete directly with the Adamo and Macbook Air.

Samsung Go N315

What is it?
The Samsung GO N315 is a netbook that is touting some trivial features like Times Reader 2.0 and “Pebble” keyboard which gives individual keys more space so that users can type more effectively.

What it has?
- Microsoft Windows 7 Starter
- Intel ATOM Processor N450
- 1GB (DDR2 / 1 GB x 1)
- 10.1″ WSVGA (1,024 x 600), LED Back Light
- Intel GMA3150
- 250GB HDD (5,400 rpm SATA)
- 802.11b/g/n WiFi
- 3 x USB 2.0 and 3-in-1 memory card reader (SD, SDHC, MMC)
- 10.3″ x 7.3″ x 1.1″ at 2.71 lbs
- Webcam
- 4.5 hours of battery life

What it needs?
The Samsung GO N315 will costs around $450, which is on the high end for netbooks and being a netbook means you do not need that much onboard memory. Samsung needs to swap out the HDD for a smaller sized SSD and make this netbook thinner and lighter.

ASUS Eee PC 1018P

What is it?
ASUS popularized the “netbook” market segment a few years back. Now it is back with an updated version called the Eee PC 1018P. Updating most of its hardware component, the 1018P will be a nice upgrade for those who likes netbooks.

What it has?
- Intel Atom N455/N475
- 10.1″ LED Backlight WSVGA at 1024 x 600 dpi
- 1GB/2GB RAM
- 160GB/250GB HDD
- 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, and 3.5G/3.7G
- 6.5 hours 44Wh li-polymer battery
- Aluminum body with 18 mm height at its slimmest
- 1.3MP camera
- USB 3.0 Super Speed
- Windows 7 Basic/Premium

What it needs?
Being a netbook, the 1018P should have WiMAX and it could also use SSDs instead of HDDs, just reduce the capacity to keep price competitive.

Hanvon TouchPad BC10C and BA10E Tablets

What is it?
The Hanvon TouchPad BC10C and BA10E are tablet PCs; so by nature it does what most other personal computers do, except in a keyboard-less and ultra portable body. In other words, it is what the Apple iPad should have been.

What it has?
- BC10C / BA10E
- CPU: 1.3GHz Intel Celeron ULV743 / 1.6GHz Intel Atom
- GPU: Mobile Intel 4 Series / Intel GMA500
- SDRAM: 2GB DDR2 / 1GB DDR2
- HDD: 250GB / 120GB
- Multi-touch 10.1″ LED Backlight Screen at 1024 x 600dpi
- Body is made from aluminum, carbon fiber, and plastic
- Camera: 2.0MP / 1.3MP
- Windows 7 Home Premium
- WiFi & Bluetooth
- 253 x 168 x 18.4 mm / 243 x 183 x 14 mm

What it needs?
This will be tough to answer. Software-wise, there is not much to complain because these tablets are running Windows 7, so you can install any software you need (reads: Amazon Kindle PC Software).

Hardware-wise, if Hanvon can squeeze Intel Core 2 Duo and a WiMAX receiver into this baby, I don’t see why anyone would be crazy enough to buy an Apple iPad!!
