Cowon J3 PMP

What is it?
The Cowon J3 PMP is the refreshed flagship media player from the company that is known to create great audio players. It may be going overboard to call this the iPod Touch’s true competitor, but you will be tempted to agree when you look at the specs.

What it has?
- 3.3″ AMOLED touchscreen with 16M colors
- 4GB/8GB/16GB/32GB internal memory
- MicroSD card slot
- Built-in speaker
- Bluetooth 2.0 and USB 2.0
- DMB TV tuner and FM Radio
- Voice recorder
- Flash player
- 106.5 x 56 x 9.9 mm at 76 grams
- Most media format under the sun

What it needs?
In almost all area, the Cowon J3 is better than the iPod Touch, but it will fail to compete because of the lack of support for apps. Therefore, to really make the J3 perfect and make it the iPod Touch killer, all it needs is Android. With Android comes web surfing and apps.

Samsung Galaxy S (I9000)

What is it?
The Galaxy S (I9000) is Samsung’s answer to HTC Android’s dominance. Bigger and packed with a harder punch on most specs, this segment is getting pretty full.

What it has?

What it needs?
The bigger the better? Well when it comes to cellphones that will need to fit into your pocket, maybe not. When the iPhone first came out, I thought it was huge, now the Galaxy S is bigger and longer. Do I need the extra .5″ of screen real estate? Not really.

Sprint EVO 4G (HTC Supersonic)

A day after Sprint emailed their customer with a teaser, they released the mega-phone named EVO 4G, aka, HTC Supersonic. One of the biggest selling point besides the Android OS and 4G speed is the ability to share its 4G speeds with 8 devices via Wi-Fi!!

What it has?
- Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8650 (1GHz) processor
- 4.3″ capacitive display with pinch-to-zoom and tactile feedback
- Android 2.1 OS
- Sprint Navigation, with turn-by-turn driving directions and 3D maps
- Updated HTC Sense UI
- Visual voicemail
- 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot capability – connects up to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices
- 4G data speeds (WiMAX) – average download speeds of 3-6 Mbps
- 8MP autofocus camera with dual LED flash and 1.3MP front-facing camera
- 720p video recording
- HDMI output port
- Built-in kickstand for hands-free viewing
- FM radio and Amazon MP3 store
- Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP Stereo and EDR
- Built-in Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g

What it needs?
It is hard to find flaws on the Sprint EVO 4G, I am just jealous since I have AT&T and cannot simply insert my sim card into this mega-phone. It is pretty amazing to pack all these features into slim phone, but one thing that can be improve is the 65K colors screen – 16M colors should be the norm now.

Sony Vaio M Series

What is it?
Sony puts it M series into the notebook category, but one look at the specs, it is clearly a netbook meant for usage during travel.

What it has?
- Intel Atom N450 1.66GHz
- Genuine Windows 7 Starter (32-bit)
- 1GB DDR2 SDRAM (667 MHz)
- 250GB Serial ATA (5400 rpm)
- 10.1” 16:10 display (1024×600) with LED backlight
- Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150
- 183 x 33 x 268 mm at 1.4 kilograms
- WLAN 802.11b/g/n
- Bluetooth 2.1+EDR
- MOTION EYE camera
- Stereo speakers plus mono microphone
- 3 USB ports

What it needs?
For the M series to be a better netbook, it definitely needs to have SSD and a 3G or 4G card. I rather have that then large HDD, 3 USB ports, and Bluetooth.

Nokia C6

What is it?
This is very preliminary, but the Nokia C6 is the next phone to be introduced in the C series. The C6 is just an update to Nokia slider phones, nothing ground breaking.

What it has?
- 2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
- 3G Network HSDPA 2100
- 3.2″ TFT touchscreen with 16M colors
- Size 360 x 640 pixels, 3.2 inches
- Full QWERTY keyboard
- Internal 256 MB storage
- Card slot microSD, up to 32GB
- WiFi 802.11 b/g
- Bluetooth Yes, v2.1 with A2DP
- OS Symbian OS v9.4, Series 60 rel. 5
- Radio Stereo FM radio with RDS
- GPS Yes, with A-GPS support; Nokia Maps

What it needs?
The specs listed here may change somewhat when the Nokia C6 is available, so it is hard to tell what it is lacking. Two things it needs for sure if it wants to compete in this market – a updated, smooth interface and lots of cool new apps. Symbian has been around for a while, but it definitely need a united delivery channel with support from developers.
